What is this?
Monday, December 5, 2011

Squaw Valley’s Renaissance is rolling.
The resort’s five-year, $50 million capital improvement plan includes a multitude of projects, many of which will be evident in the upcoming season. In addition to new activities, this winter welcomes three new dining experiences, revamped terrain parks, new facilities and expanded skier services to the resort.
And what guests won’t see is also part of the plan.
This summer the old ticket portals were removed from the base area, enhancing views of the mountain from the Village. During the off-season, a new snowbaord and rental and demo center was also built behind the main ski rental shop and the Olympic House and surrounding buildings, including Le Chamois, were painted. Other improvemts for 2011-12 include:

Terrain Park Enhancement
Squaw Valley’s new partnership with Snow Park Technologies (SPT),  is designed to place the resort’s terrain parks and half-pipe among the top in North America over the next few years. With a resume including the ESPN Winter X-Games, Dew Tour and signature Red Bull events such as the world’s first cubed 22 foot pipe built at Squaw Valley last spring, SPT will be working with Squaw Valley to improve all facets of the resort’s terrain park program through design collaboration, recruitment and development. SPT will also be working with the resort to develop new park and pipe-related events in the years to come.

New Retail Outlets

Among the new retails stores are concept outlets from Salomon, The North Face and Oakley. The new Salomon concept store is the first of its kind in America, showcasing the latest retail technology and a full range of hard and soft goods from Salomon skis, boots, snowboards and helmets, to the new Salomon goggles and Suunto watches. Salomon will also offer a full range of technical outerwear and apparel. The new store’s graphics and design will pay homage to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area and local Salomon athletes including Squaw’s own Cody Townsend. The new Salomon concept store is scheduled to open for the 2011 holiday season with a grand opening party.

The North Face concept store has been relocated and completely redesigned, offering a full range of head-to-toe products, including performance outerwear, apparel, footwear, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents and performance outerwear for infants, toddlers and youth. Doubling in size, The North Face store’s new location in The Village features fully integrated Squaw imagery, including shots of the resort’s own big mountain pro skier, Ingrid Backstrom. The North Face Store even features unique dressing rooms made entirely of tent and climbing materials. The North Face store is schedule to open by Thanksgiving.
The new Oakley concept store will offer high performance men’s and women’s snow, lifestyle, golf and training apparel, footwear and accessories, in addition to an extensive selection of signature eyewear. The store will feature a goggle and sunglass bar, where guests can have the “Oakley Custom experience.” Guests can hand select sunglass and goggle frames and lens combinations to create their own custom one-of-a-kind piece. The Oakley store is schedule to open in January 2012.
The Village at Squaw Valley also welcomes Farrah Rale Jewelry Design, where guests can create their own jewelry from gemstones, pearls, crystals, glass, and various gold and silver metals. In addition to assisting customers with crafting their own pieces, Farrah Rale’s bead team is available to assemble custom pieces while guests ski, snowboard or explore Squaw’s mountain activities.

Expanded Dining

Squaw is adding several new dining options to The Village at Squaw Valley. Full Belly Deli will be opening up shop in the Tram building at the new Full Belly Deli Express in early December. Menu items will include breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, wraps, salads and their signature sandwiches.
